Our
Story

Our Story

Growth from a Broken Woman began after a series of heartbreaking losses that pushed our family into the depths of pain and ultimately toward healing.

In September 2018, our cousin was killed by the police. I Tianda felt dark, unhappy, and completely disconnected from myself. In an effort to find the light at the end of the tunnel, I began going to therapy and counseling.

Just five months later, my dad passed away suddenly while he was in prison. The grief and shock were overwhelming.

One day, on a car ride, my then-11-year-old son Tre‘Shawn now 18 looked at me and asked,
“Mom, are you going to be sad again like you were when Pat Pat died?”

In that moment I felt ashamed, let down, and disappointed in myself. But I knew I couldn’t let my children see me broken like that again. I promised him that I would never let myself get lost in that kind of sadness again. That was the moment I realized:
I couldn’t disappoint my children again.

To help myself and my family begin the long road toward healing, to face the challenges life was throwing at us, and to find the light at the end of the tunnel, I continued attending therapy and counseling. I also found grieving and healing classes for my children and myself, read countless self-help books, listened to uplifting podcasts, and pursued many tools that supported our emotional growth and recovery.

While searching for journals that would truly support our healing journey, I couldn’t find the kind of grief journals I needed that reflected my healing process, faith, and heart. That’s when God spoke to me “Use the things that have been helping you heal and create the journals you and your children need.” In that moment was the beginning of Growth from a Broken Woman I begin bringing the vision God gave me to life in July 2023.

This was also the start of a deeper healing journey for my children and I. For Tre‘Shawn, Ahmi and Kha’Morah they also began to heal by learning to process their emotions, grow stronger, and see a better version of themselves and their mother as well. For myself a journey toward sobriety and a closer walk with God. Three and a half years later, I am still sober, much more healed, still doing the work and walking my journey with God every day.

The journal prompts we create come from those lived experiences, the tools that helped us process our emotions, build resilience, and grow in self-awareness and clarity. Many customers who have used these journals as well as friends, family, and people we have met along the way have shared that our journals and prompts has helped them better understand themselves, their emotions, and their path forward encouraging them to become their best selves as well.

We are extremely proud of the journey we’ve walked individually and as a family through the darkest moments of our lives to find the light at the end of the tunnel. We hope you have been encouraged by our story, and that it can be a source of strength for you or someone you may know.

Thank you for visiting our website. We hope you find exactly what you’re looking for.
